Moving the Ball Forward

I wrote recently about moving the ball forward every day.

For me, that isn't just a motivational saying. It's how I think about McSquared Customs.

I'm constantly asking myself questions.

How do I make the business better?

What capability makes sense next?

What can I make more efficient?

How do I turn one recurring customer into two?

How do I build something sustainable instead of simply creating another job for myself?

Because the long-term goal isn't just to own a successful small business.

It's self-reliance.

There's still a long way between where McSquared is today and where I want it to be. I'm not going to pretend otherwise.

But there's also a big difference between dreaming about building something and actually building it.

Piece by piece, that's what I'm doing.

Finish the website. Improve the systems behind the business. Develop repeatable products. Build recurring customer relationships. Add new capabilities when they make sense. Get to consistent revenue, then grow it.

And eventually, build the processes well enough that McSquared doesn't require me to personally touch every product that leaves the shop.

The milestones might start small—$1,000 a month consistently.

Then $2,000.

Then $5,000.

But somewhere along that road, something much bigger changes:

The job you need becomes a job you choose.

That's what I'm chasing.

Not retirement. Not sitting around doing nothing.

The freedom to decide what I do with my time while knowing my family is secure.

I've spent most of my adult life working, serving, providing and carrying responsibility. I'm proud of what that has allowed me to accomplish.

But I don't want my only plan for the future to be keep working until I can't.

So I'll keep thinking. Keep experimenting. Keep building. Some ideas will work. Others won't. That's part of it.

Learn. Adjust.

Move the damn ball another yard.

Then get up tomorrow and do it again.
